Description:
This vigorous vase shaped tree is tolerant of challenging urban conditions. Part of that toughness is its resistance to Dutch elm disease and elm yellows. It is one of the few elms with red-purple fall color.

Tree Shape: Upright to pyramid when young. Vase to oval with age.
Where to Plant:
Great tree for your yard or in a planting strip without overhead power lines.
Leaves:
Lustrous, dark green leaves produce a long lasting red-purple fall color.
Preferred Site Conditions:
Full sun to part shade. Adaptable to a wide range of soils. Tolerant of tough urban conditions but still in need of frequent watering to establish it.
Potential Problems:
Moderate resistance to elm leaf beetle. Resistant to Dutch elm disease and elm yellows.

- 15 feet from house or building
- 3 ½ feet back from the face of the curb
- 5 feet from underground utility lines
- 10 feet from power poles
- 7 ½ feet from driveways (10 feet recommended)
- 20 feet from street lights and other existing trees
- 30 feet from street intersections
