SODO Vision Zero Projects

About the SODO Neighborhood

The SODO neighborhood is unique in the different needs it serves. It serves as the city's freight and manufacturing industrial center, a hub for recreation and nightlife, a location for essential human services, and a key connector for commuters and freight to access downtown Seattle and South Seattle.

Safety Issues in SODO

Historically, SODO has not been a very inviting place for people walking and rolling whether on bike, scooter, or mobility assisted device. All of the arterials going north-south through the neighborhood are on our High Injury Network, which means these streets see the highest rate of fatal and serious injury collisions across the city. There are also many locations throughout SODO that are identified on the Bike and Pedestrian Safety analysis which measures the risk of collision and injury based on historical data. For these reasons, our Vision Zero Program is focusing on SODO neighborhood to expedite safety changes.
