2nd Ave Mobility Improvements
Overview
The 2nd Ave protected bike lane from Denny Way to Pike St opened in February 2018. With this recent extension, the protected bike lane connects Belltown to Pioneer Square through downtown on a route that’s comfortable for people of all ages and abilities.
The project also added 3 new signals at Cedar, Clay, and Vine streets. The signals add predictability for people driving, biking, and walking.

This project is part of the Seattle Vision Zero Plan to end traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2030. The improvements also contribute to SDOT's goal to provide people who live, work, and play in Seattle with multiple travel options depending on their needs.

Outreach
We worked closely with the community throughout design and construction for the project, including presentations to community organizations, businesses, and property owners in the project area; visited neighbors through door-to-door outreach and pre-construction surveys; and coordinated directly with the public through weekly email updates and regular construction notices during construction.
