Retrieving Property Held at the Evidence Unit

• You can reclaim lost/found or items used in an investigation from the Evidence Unit.
• If your item(s) were part of an investigation, they must first be cleared for release by the investigating officer or detective.
• You have 60 days to pick up your items once they are released or they will be forfeited.
  
  

Retrieve property used in an investigation:

Call us ahead of time

1. Before you call:

• You will need your case number (also called a GO or Incident Number).  This number will always begin with the year the incident occurred (e.g. 17-123456)
• You will need the name of the officer or detective handling your case. 
• If you don’t have your case number or officer name, call the records unit at (206) 684-5454.

2. Call (206) 684-8720 and press 5 to speak with Evidence personnel.

3. Confirm that your items have been released by the investigating officer.

Pick up your items

1. Make sure you bring:

• Valid, government issued personal photo identification.
• Your case number.         
• Any additional paperwork that was given to you (notification card, letter, etc.)

Retrieve lost/found/stolen property:

The Evidence Unit also serves as the largest lost and found warehouse in the city.  Every year thousands of valuable items are found by the public and then recovered and stored by the police.

Call to see if we have your property:

1. Call (206) 684-8720 and press 3 for the Found Property Detective

Pick up your item(s):

1. Bring valid, government issued personal photo identification to the Evidence Unit.

Retrieve a lost or stolen bicycle:

See if you can find your bicycle:

1. Visit https://twitter.com/GetYourBikeBack and see if you can find your bike.
2. If you see your bike posted, email FindMyBike@Seattle.gov
3. If you have the serial number of your bike, include this in your email.

Call to see if we have your bike:

1. If you can’t find your bike online, Call (206) 684-8720 and press 3 for the Found Property Detective

Pick up your item(s):

1. Bring valid, government issued personal photo identification to the Evidence Unit.
2. Bring your bike’s serial number, if you have it.

Retrieve a firearm:

Call us ahead of time:

1. Before you call:

• You will need your case number (also called a GO or Incident Number).  This number will always begin with the year the incident occurred (e.g. 17-123456)
• You will need the name of the officer or detective handling your case. 
• If you don’t have your case number or officer name, call the records unit at (206) 684-5454.

2.  Call (206) 684-8720 and press 5 to speak with Evidence personnel.
3.  You will be asked questions to complete a Record Check for a Firearm Release Form. 
4.  This records check will be processed in approximately three to five business days.
5.  When the check is completed, we will contact you via phone. 
6.  You will have five business days to retrieve the firearm or the background process will need to start over.

BY BUS

Metro transit route 124 stops at Airport Way S. and S. Stacy Street. From the bus stop, walk one block west to the second driveway on the north side of the street.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

If you are driving from the north, take I-5 southbound and use the Airport Way S. exit number 164. Go approximately ½ mile and turn right onto S. Stacy Street. Once on S. Stacy Street, turn right into the second driveway on the right and park in the posted visitor’s parking lot immediately to your left.

If you are driving from the south, take I-5 northbound to the Spokane Street exit. Stay in the left lane of the exit ramp and follow the signs to the lower roadway. The traffic light at the bottom of the ramp is 6th Ave. South. Turn right onto 6th Ave. South and go approximately ½ mile to S. Stacy Street. Turn right across the railroad tracks and turn left into the first driveway on the left. Please park in the posted visitor’s parking lot that is immediately to your left.
