Swim Program Descriptions
Below are general descriptions of swim programs offered across the Seattle Parks and Recreation pool system. Some locations may have variations, so please check with each pool for specific details.
Recreation Swims
Adult Swim is time set aside for recreational swimming for adults 18 or older. We set aside one part of the pool for lap swimming and leave the rest of the pool available for less structured swimming.
Fun for the whole family, Family Swim is a great time for play. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied into the pool by a responsible adult. Children younger than 6 years of age or under 48" in height must be directly supervised in the water by an adult who is within a distance of an arm's length at all times.
Lap Swim is a continuous lap swim for swimmers of all ages; we divide the lanes according to speed levels.
Public swim is a time set aside for recreational swimming for swimmers of all ages to enjoy. Children younger than 6 or under 48" in height must be directly supervised in the water by an adult who is within a distance of an arm's length at all times.
Senior Swim is time we set aside especially for seniors 65 and older. We set aside one part of the pool for lap swimming, and leave the rest of the pool available for less structured swimming.
Water Fun, including Pool Playland for younger kids with their accompanying adults, and Teen Swim for kids in middle school and high school, is available at various pools. Please see individual pool brochures for more information.
Fitness Swims
Aqua Jog is a non-impact exercise program we hold in the deep end of the pool. It's designed to give you an aerobic workout while developing your muscle tone and endurance. You'll wear a float belt to maintain proper body alignment and keep your head above water. Participants should be comfortable in deep water.
Early Morning Lap Swim is a great opportunity for early morning swimmers. It's for lap swimmers of all ages; we set up lanes according to speed levels. You'll need a pre-purchased swim card for entry.
This non-impact deep water class incorporates muscular strengthening, aerobics conditioning, and abdominal toning exercises. In it you'll use flotation equipment for buoyancy and water resistance. Participants should be comfortable in deep water.
Masters Workout is a structured workout led by experienced instructors/coaches designed to help you get in shape, stay in shape, or prepare for an important swim meet. Workouts are for adults 18 and older.
We offer various classes, including Water Walking, Stretch and Flex, and Arthritis Water Exercise, to help seniors improve joint range of motion and flexibility through low-impact movement and the resistance of water. For some classes we may require a doctor's release for participation; please see individual pool brochures for more information.
Water exercise class is designed to build strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. It takes advantage of your buoyancy in the water and the resistance the water creates. This is a terrific exercise program regardless of your age or fitness abilities, and it allows you to exercise at your own comfort level.
