Trails Task Force
Meeting:
Wednesday, August 7
6:00 pm- 9:00 pm
Seattle Parks and Recreation Headquarters, Board Room
100 Dexter Ave. N. Seattle, WA 98109
Background
Seattle Parks and Recreation has nearly 100 miles of trails within the City limits. These trails are a mix of developed and semi-developed trails, some in good condition, others in need of renovation, and still others that receive regular use but aren't well known to the public because they are located within newly acquired open space properties. Trails are major part of what make our parks great, and we have heard from the community that they would like to see SPR's network of trails preserved and enhanced. We also know that access to nature is essential to ensure the health and wellness of our city's residents, and to further our commitment to racial equity in Seattle.
In 2017, SPR staff prepared a draft Soft Surface Trails Management Plan, which identified a set of strategies specifically related to soft surface trail maintenance. In developing a Strategic Plan to guide the department's future efforts, SPR is seeking further input to help guide future work and priorities related to our trail system.
What is the Trails Task Force?
As part of SPR's Strategic Planning process, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is convening a small group of stakeholders to create recommendations that prioritize department resources and efforts related to our trail system over the next 10-12 years. This group will consider both improvements to the existing network that are sustainable and opportunities for network expansion.
This Task Force will meet over the course of two meetings beginning in August 2019. The group is charged with developing a set of recommendations for the Superintendent's consideration that will guide the department in prioritizing achievable and meaningful goals in trail management and expansion. The first meeting is scheduled for August 7, 2019.
