Additional laws for employers
The Domestic Workers Ordinance applies whether the person that works for you is an employee or an independent contractor.
However, other labor standards may also apply if you have an employee-employer relationship with the person who you have hired. Some of those additional employment-based protections might include:
- Paid Sick and Safe Time, which requires employers to provide paid leave for employees to use when they need to take time off work for physical or mental health conditions, doctor’s appointments, getting help with domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, and if their workplace or their family member’s place of care has been closed.
- Wage Theft, which requires employers to pay all compensation owed to an employee.
