Project Description
In 2017, Seattle City Light installed underground electrical conduit, vaults and associated equipment in parts of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. This work was done as part of the City of Seattle's ordinance to convert overhead power lines to an underground electrical system. The next step of this work includes pulling in cables to connect the underground electrical system.
Location
Construction is occurring on East Union Street and on 10th, 11th and 12th avenues.
What's Happening Now?
This project has been put on hold. Crews will return to this project at a later date.
Community Benefits
- Completion of this work will allow for enhanced electrical reliability in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
- This work is needed to meet the City of Seattle's ordinance to underground power lines in this area.
Anticipated Impacts
- Crews will be pulling in underground electrical cables to convert the new electrical system.
- Customers can expect temporary parking, sidewalk and traffic restrictions during this project. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.
- Crews will maintain access for businesses during construction.
- Some noise is expected from construction activities.
- Maintenance power outages are required to do the work safely. Customers will be notified in advance of any planned outage. Outages may occur outside of construction hours.

- Daily Work Schedule: Mon-Fri: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Some weekend work may be needed.
